DAY
01  
We will go through interesting inter-Andean valleys and picturesque peasant communities visiting the Pre-Inca tombs or ”Chullpas” of Ninamarca. At noon, we will go through Paucartambo, a very important typical colonial town in those times that still preserves its colonial style. Continuing with the journey, we will ascend up to the Acjanacu mountain pass at 3,850 m.a.s.l. From here, we start the descent going across the cloud forest which is a rich area in endemic species such as the black-masked bear, the Gallito de las Rocas, orchids, bromeliads, ferns and others, and where we will spend our first night comfortably settled in an open platform at the “San Pedro” lodge.
DAY 02   
Very early we will be able to observe, comfortably sit in an observation platform called “Lek,” the interesting courting dance of the Gallito de las Rocas, Peruvian National bird, which has a flashy and very intense reddish-orange plumage. After breakfast, continue the ride on the bus across the high jungle, arriving to the locality of Pilcopata and then to the port of Atalaya (600 m.a.s.l.), located at the shores of the Alto Madre de Dios river, where a outboard motor boat will be waiting for us loaded with the required gear for the journey. In this way we begin the downstream journey where we will be able to observe the great diversity of birds such as herons, vultures, cormorants and others. Journey continues until arriving at the private reserve “Erika” where we will spend the night. Erika is located in the Transitional Area between the high and low jungle (600 m.a.s.l. and 1,550 m.a.s.l.). The different altitudes give place to diverse habitats, which explains the great diversity of wild life of the surroundings. We will walk on the interesting roads and paths where the guide will talk about the mammals, birds, reptiles, insects, medicinal plants and others that live there.
1*Optional: From the town of Pilcopata we will travel on canoe (class II and III) for approximately 1 ½ hours on the Kosñipata tropical river, passing by the spectacular Pongo de Koñeq where we will stop to enjoy the landscape and take a bath on its crystal-clear waters. Continue until reaching Erika private reserve.
*Optional Canopy Tour: our clients at Erika Lodge have a chance to experience an exciting feeling of going from tree to tree, from platform to platform using harnesses fixed on a horizontal cable with rail system by which one will slide at great speed over the top of the trees of this fabulous Amazon jungle appreciating from the top (approximately 30 meters) the birds d iversity and the flora of the area. Specialized personnel will assist the participants at every moment during this exciting adventure.
DAY 03  
Early morning we will board the embarkation in which we will sail for 10 minutes heading towards the “Collpa”, a clay wall on the shores of the river where different species of parrots as the blue headed parrot, the white eye parakeet and maybe even the Maracano macaw (Ara severa) among ohers that come down each morning to extract and lick chunks of clay containing the necessary minerals for a dietetic balance. At the end of this daily routine we will continue on boat to the port of Atalaya where a bus will be waiting for us to take us back to the city of Cusco. Arrival at the city at night.
