TOUR DESCRIPTION
BREAKFAST   BOX LUNCH   LUNCH   DINNER

DAY 01
Through interesting inter-Andean valleys and picturesque peasant communities. At noon, we will visit the pre-Incan tombs of Ninamarca known as “Chullpas” to then head to Paucartambo, a typical colonial town of historic relevance that still preserves its traditions. Continuing with the journey, we will ascent up to the Acjanacu mountain pass at 3,850 m.a.s.l. From there, we will start the descent going across the cloud forest, a very rich area in endemic species such as the black-masked bear, the Gallito de las Rocas, hummingbirds, orchids, bromeliads, ferns and others. We will spend the night at the San Pedro lodge comfortably set.

DAY 02
Very early we will be able to observe the Gallito de las Rocas, Peru´s national bird, courting dance that has a flashy and intense reddish-orange plumage. After breakfast, continue the journey by bus, going across the high jungle arriving at Pilcopata* to then go to the port of Atalaya located at the shores of the Alto Madre de Dios river at 700 m.a.s.l. Once the boat is loaded with the necessary equipment we will start the downstream journey during which we will observe the amazing diversity of bird species such as herons, vultures, cormorants and others until reaching to Erika private reserve, where we will stay the next 2 nights. Hike along the trails. Overnight at the lodge.

1*Optional: Canoeing option (class II and III) from the town of Pilcopata for an approximately 1 ½ hours on the Kosñipata tropical river, going across the spectacular Pongo de Koñeq where one can enjoy the landscape and dive in its crystal-clear waters. Continue downstream the Alto Madre de Dios river until reaching lodge Erika.

2*Optional: we walk along a path that will take us to our observation platform (vintage point) located 15 meters away from the “collpa” where we will wait for the flock / herd of “huanganas” to see them in action. Important: the observation of the herd depends very much on luck, place availability and weather conditions.

DAY 03
Erika is located in the Transitional Area between the high and low jungle (600 m.a.s.l. and 1,550 m.a.s.l.). The different altitudes give place to diverse habitats, which explains the great diversity of wild life of the surroundings. After breakfast, we will board the embarkation in which we will sail for 5 minutes to cross the Alto Madre de Dios River and walk 30 minutes along an interesting path to observe and talk about the flora. We will arrive at Machuwasi Lagoon where we will observe birds with a telescope.

*Optional Canopy Tour: our clients at Erika Lodge have a chance to experience an exciting feeling of going from tree to tree, from platform to platform using harnesses fixed on a horizontal cable with rail system by which one will slide at great speed over the top of the trees of this fabulous Amazon jungle appreciating from the top (approximately 30 meters) the birds diversity and the flora of the area. Specialized personnel will assist the participants at every moment during this exciting adventure.
