SANDBOARDING

NASCA - CERRO MARCHA
4:30 Hours

TOUR DESCRIPTION (DIFFICULTY: MEDIUM)

Depart from the city heading to Copara, a small town that produces table grapes, tuna (nopal´s fruit), cochineal and cotton. When passing by the crops, one can understand the relevance of these produces in local economy.

Across the valley of Trancas, one can see many trapezoids (Nasca lines). Going across these archaeological areas, one gets near through a colourful pampa to Cerro Marcha, considered the second highest dune in the continent after Cerro Blanco, both located in the city of Nasca.

After reaching the natural vantage point, from which one can overlook the entire valley and the dune, starts a journey across a “sea of fine sand dunes” until arriving to the place where extreme sandboarding is practiced.

According to some expert sportsmen, this dune could be considered the best in the world to practice this sport because of its natural ramps and its spectacular slopes. Although this journey is more for trained sandboarders, a class for beginners can be arranged to encourage them to keep on practicing extreme sandboarding.

On the way back, visit one of the many old cemeteries that surround the area. Observe the desecrated tombs and pottery that were left behind by the local “huaqueros” (tomb looters).

Reach the small town of Trancas where one of the aqueducts built by the Nascas is still being used. The palm tree plantations that surround the town make it a charming place.

After the visit to Trancas, return to the Panamerican highway which will take us back directly to the city of Nasca.
