DAY 1
CUSCO / WAQCHA PAMPAS (l/d)
We
travel by bus from Cusco passing Izcuchaca town, Limatambo
(The ruins of Tarawasi) and Kunyac Bridge. We take a break
to visit Saywite stone. We go over the Cachora Pass where
our hike will begin. We rough the ranchland of Anta province
and visit the thermal baths, famed for their medicinal properties
and you can relax and soak away the tiredness. There is a
curious Monolith eleven meters wide more than two meters high
known as the Layout of Tawantinsuyo or Inca Empire. After
Cachora we walk to our first campsite in Waqcha Pampas.
DAY 2
WAQCHA PAMPAS / ROSALINA BEACH (b/l/d)
After breakfast we go to La Colmena, passing the Chacamayo
River which flows by Cachora, Pucaira Pampas and on to the
Appurimac canyon. We visit Chanchaillu (complex of fountains)
and then ascend toward big Wayna Qualli, which is a beautiful
vantage point where we can view a part of the ruins of Choquequirao,
and the snowy mountain chain of Vilcabamba. After this we
descend toward Cuca Masana. The flora and fauna begins to
change as we head down into warmer altitudes. Finally we arrive
at Rosalina beach for our second night of camping.
DAY 3
ROSALINA BEACH / RAQAYPATA (b/l/d)
This is considered the most arduous day of the trek. We ascend
early in the trek toward the Cusquenia side of the mountains
heading for Maranpata. The trek passes through forests with
colorful fragrant violets orchids and animals such as deer,
bear and anteaters, and a rich variety of exotic birds. We
rest at Maranpata and then continue on to the third nights
camping on the banks of the Chunchullmayo River at Raqaypata
count.
DAY 4 WAQCHA
PAMPAS (b/l/d)
From the camp we walk for about an hour to get to the site
of Choquequirao we will have a guided tour of the complex
and free time to visit the eight sectors of this huge ancient
city. There are Barns, Qolqas, campuses, terraces and the
altar of the sun to explore. After our visit we return to
the campsite for our fourth nights camping.
DAY 5
WAQCHA PAMPAS / CUSCO (b)
During our last day of Trekking we visit the canyon that sources
the Apurímac River, taking a new trail that crosses
the throat of the canyon. We have a stunning view from Wayna
Qalli towards the canyon that is considered the most spectacular
viewpoint in South America. We finally arrive in Cachora where
we get our bus to Cusco.
