TOUR DESCRIPTION

DAY 01 CUSCO /KM. 104/ WIÑAY WAYNA / AGUAS CALIENTES (l / d)
An early morning transfer from the hotel to the railway station for a three hour ride which has been described as one of the most spectacular rail journeys in the world. The train climbs out of Cusco to a high plateau before following the Urubamba River down the Sacred Valley of the Incas. From here it is down into the narrow, deep Urubamba gorge, surrounded by sheer mountains and thick forest. We begin our walk at the 104th Km. After crossing the raging Vilcanota / Urubamba River we come across the ruins of Chachabamba about 400 meters upriver. Here a sacred rock is surrounded by eight rooms with an outer wall of rectangular stones and a series of ceremonial fountains once used to worship water. From Chachabamba we begin to climb away from the river along an Inca highway through luxuriant vegetation which is home to endemic species of birds and orchids. Our first view of the ruins of Wiñay Wayna will coincide with our lunch hour stop,
Continuing our walking journey to Machu Picchu ruins, here the final stretch of the Royal Highway takes us into the citadel itself and the Intipunku ( the Sun Gate ) from here we will have the first view of the ruins. ( 7 hours walking) arriving to Machu Picchu we will go down to Aguas Calientes town by the Touristic Bus ( 25 minutes trip ) Overnight at a hostal.

DAY 02 MACHU PICCHU /AGUAS CALIENTES / CUZCO
