DAY 01 CUSCO / KM. 82 / HUAYLLABAMBA
Early morning transfer from hotel to km 82, where we will have breakfast. The journey begins with a 2-hour hike approximately, after which we will visit Patallacta, an archaeological site where one can watch an impressive landscape of flora, fauna, and indigenous towns with Incan traditions apart from archaeological sites that show the relevance of this valley. After lunch, we will slightly ascend a semi-tropical valley for about 2 hours until reaching the camp at Guayllabamba(3,000m.a.s.l.) where we will spend the night.
DAY 02 HUAYLLABAMBA / PACAYMAYU
This is considered the most tiring day because we will reach the highest point of the entire trip, known as the Warmiwañusca mountain pass at 4,200m.a.s.l. After breakfast we climb for about 2 hours across plentiful vegetation with native jungle trees (reason why it is known as the highest jungle in the world, at 3,800m.a.s.l.). Starting there on and until reaching the top it is a typical Andean mountain covered with “ichu” or straw. After an arduous trek for about 5 hours we finally reach the top where we can observe the majesty of the Andes; the deep valleys and if the weather conditions are good we will watch condors flying. Then, after a short rest, we will come down heading to the second camp in Pacaymayu (3,500m.a.s.l.). Overnight.
DAY 03 PACAYMAYU / WIÑAYHUAYNA
After breakfast, we once again go on an hour and a half trek until reaching Runkuracay archaeological site and its interesting building structures. After a 30 minute hike we descend to the Sayacmarca, Phuyupatamarcaand Wiñayhuayna archaeological center. Most of the journey is along original and perfectly preserved Inca trails. We will go through Inca tunnels, vantage points and across the base of the mountains (low jungle) with plentiful flora and fauna (especially with a great diversity of orchids and hummingbirds). Finally, we reach the third camp at Wiñayhuaynaat 2,650m.a.s.l. Overnight.
DAY 04 WIÑAYHUAYNA / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO
This is the most important day on the tour. After breakfast, we set off at 4 am to reach the Intipunku (sun gate) after a 40-minute hike. This is the place where you will have the first impressive sight of the enigmatic citadel of Machu Picchu; surrounded by mountains covered with vegetation, rivers and valleys. We descend to the citadel to visit the most relevant places. We have the chance to freely explore the exotic quietness of “the Lost City of the Incas.” In the afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes. Return by train to the city of Cusco.
