DAY 01 CUSCO / SORAYPAMPA / SOYROCOCHA   
Very early in the morning departure by bus heading to the starting point of the hike. Throughout the approximate 4-hourjourney we will visit the archaeological site of Tarawasi, an Incan city the joined Machu Picchu and Choquequiraw, both relevant cities of the Andean culture. Along the hike we will be able to watch a magnificent view of the Salkantay. Then we will go slightly uphill for about 4 or 5 hours to the impressive snowcapped mountain, where we will spend the night surrounded by a spectacular view.
DAY 02 SOYROCOCHA / QOLPAPAMPA   
During an hour we slowly ascend to the top of the mountain (4,500m.a.s.l.) from where one can admire all the Andes mountain range. If weather conditions are good we will be able to see condors flying. After that, we begin a 7-8 hour downhill hike heading to the camp near the base of the mountain (low jungle). Overnight.
DAY 03 QOLPAPAMPA / LUCMABAMBA   
We will take a hike around the low jungle observing the abundant flora and fauna. Also watch fruit, coffee and tea plantations and bamboos. The climate is mild and humid, with semi-tropical features. During the journey, we will visit towns that keep Incan traditions. Finally, we reach the camp at the valley of Lucmabamba. Overnight.
DAY 04 LUCMABAMBA / HYDROELECTRIC POWER PLANT / AGUAS CALIENTES   
In a 2-hour hike we descend to Llactapata where one can see of our final destination, Machu Picchu. After that, we will continue the descent towards the hydroelectric power station. We will trek for about 2 hours all around the valley on the Urubamba riverside until reaching Puente Ruinas camp (Aguas Calientes). Overnight.
DAY 05 VISIT TO MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO  
Very early in the morning (6 am), we will take the first bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu for a guided visit which will take about 3 hours. After the guided visit we have the chance to freely explore the exotic quietness of “The Lost City of the Incas”.
In the afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes. Later, we return to Cusco by train. |
