LARES / MACHU PICCHU

TOUR DESCRIPTION

DAY 01 CUSCO / CALCA / LARES HOT SPRINGS / WACAWASI
Early morning departure to Cusco by land transportation. Along the journey, we will observe archaeological remains,handicraft markets and large farm lands in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Along the valley we will reach the province of Calca (2,940m.a.s.l.) place where we will detour to find the highest mountain pass in the area called Huaca Casi (4,400m.a.s.l.). The rest of the journey will be downhill until reaching the town of Lares at the valley (3,250m.a.s.l.) where after a few minutes we will get to the hot springs (3,200m.a.s.l.). This place is naturally charming, where there is a different temperature (between 28° and 34°) in each pool. After lunch, we start hiking to Huaca Wasi (3,600m.a.s.l.). a cold camp site. (Journey on transportation lasts 5 hours. Trekking lasts 3 hours).

DAY 02 WACAWASI / EPSAYCOCHA
This will be the toughest day of all because of the altitude range. We start the approximate 4-hour hike to reach the top of the gorge called Ipsay (4,400m.a.s.l.). Along the journey we will see communities that although time gone by continue with the Andean traditions and customs. We will descend to reach the camp, located in the community of Patacancha, a cold place at 3,800m.a.s.l. (Trekking period 7 hours).

DAY 03 EPSAYCOCHA / PATACANCHA / HUYLLOC / PUMAMARKA / OLLANTAYTAMBO / AGUAS CALIENTES
We descend going along the valley of Patacancha watching on the way communities as Willoq (3,600 m.a.s.l.), Pumamarka (3,400 m.a.s.l.) and others. These communities still keep the customs and traditions taught by their ancestors along the empire of Tahuantisuyo. We arrive at Ollantaytambo (2,850 m.a.s.l.) that has archaeological areas, a long history and Andean anthropology of living in these times. The hike lasts about 4 hours with warm weather during the day and cold during the night. At night, we will board the train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes, a town at 2050m.a.s.l. where we will spend the night.

DAY 04 AGUAS CALIENTES / MACHU PICCHU / CUSCO
Very early in the morning (6 am), we will take the first bus to the citadel of Machu Picchu for a guided visit which will take about 3 hours. After the guided visit we have the chance to freely explore the exotic quietness of “The Lost City of the Incas”. In the afternoon, return to Aguas Calientes. Later, we return to Cusco by train.
